A Tale of Procrastination.. {so what's new??}
I have a story to tell..
I have decided I miss just telling a story on my blog,
instead of just reporting on big "goings-on" here..
Sometimes I just have a story..
Those of you who know me, know I have to add a lot of detail when I tell a story..
This is my nice way of saying, bear with me, this could take a while..
{and also, in the interest of full disclosure
(apparently) I am showing a couple
incredibly unflattering photos of myself}
To {sorta} quote a non-Disney movie,
This story has many layers..
Like an onion..

{that ^^ is for you, Brother Lifferth}
Also, if you know me well, you know I have a procrastination problem..
Let's get on with the story, shall we?
I am living in fear of being pulled over right now..
Don't get me wrong, I don't speed, I don't run red lights, I don't tailgate, etc..
I get pulled over for random stuff..
"Fix-it" stuff..
Usually expired license plates..
I have a story from November 1999.. ?
My best friend Tara was in town..
from Australia..
We were reliving our glory days,
doing some late-night Christmas shopping..
We were heading home,
and as I turned in to a turn lane on University Avenue,
a policeman quickly changed lanes and was now right behind me..
I had a tiny panic attack and said to Tara -
"Great, my license plates are expired"
"..and come to think of it, so is my Driver's License"
Yes, I got pulled over and got a "fix-it" ticket to update these 2 problems..
Embarrassing..
Luckily, I was with my best friend, right??
Are you seeing where this is heading??
Fast forward to October 2010..
The family was hopping on a plane to Disney World..
When I was going through the security line,
the guard remarked that my driver's license would be expiring in a couple of weeks..
A tiny part of me thought,
I should get that renewed soon..
Ah, good intentions..
Fast forward to Wednesday, August 24, 2011..
I was laying in bed,
going over a mental list I was making,
since I would be going out of town in a couple days..
I suddenly realized..
{you know what I'm going to say, right?}
Driver's license.
Crap.
I got on Delta.com. Yep.
Valid driver's license.
{photo of my non-valid driver's license}

{so glad it was taken at my heaviest I've ever been..
including being pregnant}
{they punched holes in it at the DMV.. why?}
I got online to see what I'd need to get ready so I could get my license renewed the next day.
They recently changed the requirements in Utah:
Birth Certificate
Marriage License {for women, proof of legal last name}
Social Security Card
2 recent bills {proof of address}
Seriously? ..what a pain..
I got up the next morning and started locating all of the necessary paperwork..
I couldn't find my Social Security card..
Now, I'm thinking, whew! at least it's not my Birth Certificate or Marriage License! Since both of those occurred in Boise, I'd need to be there to get those..
I just need to go get a new Social Security card..
A pain, but not bad..
or so I thought..
To get a new Social Security card you need:
{my issues in red}
Documents to prove the identity of the applicant (US citizen): One of the following is required:
In some cases, other documents may be accepted such as:
|
As I went up to the window of the SS office,
the guy was super nice,
and called me one of "those people"
He gave me a "temporary" SS card
to help me get my Driver's License..
So, I head to the DMV..
We have an Express DMV in Provo,
not super far from my house..
I was hopeful that I could go here,
but in all honesty,
I knew deep in my heart it wouldn't work out for me..
Now, there's a guy that works at the DMV who lives in my old ward,
First, he gave me a bad time for having such an expired license,
{and informed me that I would need to go to the main DMV
because it had been more than 6 months..}
Then, he insisted {with some expletives}
that there was some form Davy would have that would get me my SSN easily.
I headed home to look for this "form" we had,
and called Davy to ask where it would be..
I can't remember the name of this form,
but Davy looked it up,
and apparently it is a form if you are self-employed..
Davy isn't self-employed..
So I'd gone home for no reason..
I quickly ate some lunch,
then headed to north Orem..
About 25ish minutes from my home..
Now, we all know,
there's no such thing as a quick trip to the DMV..
When my name was finally called,
I was told I'd have to take the written test..
Oh good..
{I got 100%}
I was then bestowed my loverly temporary license.
Please, be kind..
{I can't believe I'm posting this}
{wow.. just don't even ask what I'm doing, because I can't answer that}
To make this story even more awesome,
are you noticing the expiration date??
It's tomorrow!!
Why did I think it was only good for 60 days??
When I do think about finishing this process,
I always assume I'm starting over,
so I've been in no hurry..
{unfortunately I happen to know the DMV is closed on Fridays,
so I couldn't have done it today anyway}
Now, remember,
I told you how I'm worried about getting pulled over?
There is a reason..
It has to do with this little baby:
That ^^ my friends,is a replacement turn signal bulb..
My driver's side front signal is out..
This is a HUGE pain..
I never realized how often I turn left unprotected..
The worst place?
A place I turn left almost daily..
When I take/pick up the girls from dance..
The worst part is the studio is directly across
from the main entrance to the high school parking lot..
I tried to draw you a map to show the blockage..
Now, you see that I own a replacement bulb..
There's a story to why I own that, too,
but too make a long story a teensy bit shorter,
I'll skip that..
I'm going to Google instructions on fixing it myself..
Wish me luck..
Pray I get around to it before I get a ticket..
Thanks..
By way of explanation..
..I don't want to explain anything..
I hate when I haven't done a blog in a while, and I feel like I have to explain why I haven't done a blog in a while..
So there it is..
A new blog is coming..
I'm sure you're not wondering why it's been so long..
Now I feel better..
10 December 2011
Deep in the Heart of Texas..
September 8-11, 2011
Covey-lovey trip..
{a sad Covey-lovey trip.. down to 2 couples, who ironically live about 20 minutes away from each other!}
{yes, Andersons.. You. Were. Missed.}
Davy & I arrived in Austin early in the afternoon, so we decided to head straight for San Antonio and the Alamo!
..a really cool tree on the grounds of the Alamo..
..its branches all touched the ground..
Now, back to Austin..
{Curt & Shana arrived about midnight..}
Texas State Capitol..
Davy & Davy {Crockett}
The hinges of the Capitol Building..
So pretty!
Outside!
{we learned the Capitol Building & Visitor Center close ridiculously early}
..don't worry, we'll come back tomorrow..
From here we headed to "The Co-op"
We would call it "The Bookstore"
Let's just say, I've never seen anything like this in my life!
I am positive it is possible to buy anything in burnt orange with a Texas logo..
Just a peek..
..polo shirt section..
..Halloween shirt section..
.."dress shirt" section..
..suitcase section..
..dress section..
..children's floor..
Apparently the books were in the basement..
Really..
Here's a tidbit:
Did you know Austin, TX has the world's largest urban bat population?
Well, they do!
Lining up on the Congress Street Bridge is a tourist attraction,
as everyone waits for dusk to see something like 11 million bats come out at night to feed..
..looking pretty excited to see bats..
..especially since I'm terrified of birds flying over my head..
Shana, Curt, & Davy waiting for the bats..
Here is a pathetic iPhone picture looking down at the bats..
So, I stole some off the internet so you could get an idea..

..crazy stuff!..
Day 2 Texas State Capitol:

These next 3 photos I would like to title:
"Fun in the Texas Capitol Visitor Center/
My husband lost his pride in the Texas Capitol Visitor Center"
On to Darrel K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium!
The team arrives:
Coach Mendenhall
Jimmer {waving}
{had lots of other pictures, but I didn't see anyone else I recognized :)}
Me, Shana, and some Texas cheerleader dudes..
Nosebleed seats looking straight into the sun?
check
pregame
Let's just say, this wasn't the game of Davy & Curt's dreams..
There was a lot of wallowing in anger & agony after this game was through..
One place Texas didn't fail us??
Restaurants!!
I loved 'em all!!
This was a great one to finish with..
{can you say gingerbread pancakes??}
{somehow, Curt & Davy thought a good appetizer would be queso..
don't ask}
All that's left was heading home..
Was I happy to have a layover in Nashville??
Was I happy to be flying home on September 11th?
I think we all know the answer..
